History of EMA Foods Company


EMA Foods Company, Inc. is an Arkansas corporation that was formed in 1989 by Virgil Keith and Edna Marie Greene.  The company operated as an independent contractor for other poultry trading companies until August Of 1997. In September 1997 the company continued operations on its own resources. EMA Foods maintains its corporate office in Alma, Arkansas.

In 1965, Keith and Edna started in the poultry business with G&G Poultry Company of Kansas City, Missouri.  G&G Poultry was a retail and food service distributor whose area of operation included northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas.  G&G was purchased and renamed Crystal Lake Foods by Peterson Industries of Decatur, Arkansas in 1968.  Keith remained with Crystal Lake of Kansas City, Missouri until November of 1971 when he accepted a position in the poultry division of Wilson & Company of Kansas City, Kansas.  In November of 1973, after two years with Wilson & Company, an opportunity again became available with Peterson Industries.  Keith assumed the position of branch office manager for Crystal Lake Foods of Wichita, Kansas. This began a seven year tenure with Crystal Lake Foods which included branch office manager of Crystal Lake of Galesburg, Illinois in January of 1975, Crystal Lake of Decatur, Illinois in June of 1976, and finally a promotion to director of branch operations in February of 1977. In July of 1978, he moved to Peterson's corporate headquarters located in Decatur, Arkansas.  Keith remained with Peterson Industries until October of 1980 when he accepted the position as sales manager with O.K. Foods of Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Additionally, he was a stockholder and member of the Board of directors until March of 1985.  In April of 1985 he accepted a trading position with Robinson Poultry Company until December 1990. Keith also operated as an independent contractor for Mid West Foods starting in January of 1990 and for Bingham Poultry Company from September of 1990 until August of 1997.

Keith and Edna are also the owners of Alma Aviation LLC, which is a holding company for aircraft used by EMA Foods.
